A tag is a small wearable device carried by a person on site. It emits a signal detected by nearby base stations (PWS units), enabling the system to track proximity events and incursions.
A base station, also called a Proximity Warning System (PWS), is a unit installed on a machine. It detects nearby tags and reports incursion events. It also tracks the machine’s GPS location, ignition state, and runtime hours.
Navigate to Register Device from the main navigation. Select whether you’re registering a machine (base station) or a tag, then follow the on-screen instructions to enter the device’s serial number and details.
Tag testing frequency depends on your organization’s safety policy. SensorZone tracks “days since last test” for each tag. Most organizations require tags to be tested daily or at the start of each shift. Tags that haven’t been tested within the expected interval are highlighted in the People list.
An inactive tag hasn’t reported any events during the selected time period. This could mean:
  • The tag is powered off or not in use
  • The tag is out of range of all base stations
  • The tag’s battery is dead
Check the tag’s battery status and last activity date for more context.
This means a base station has stopped communicating with the platform. Possible causes include:
  • The machine is powered off
  • The base station is in an area with no cellular coverage
  • A hardware fault
If connectivity doesn’t restore after the machine is powered on in a covered area, contact support.
Yes. In SensorZone, machine records (assets) are separate from base station hardware. When you physically move a base station to a new machine, update the assignment in Settings > Machine Assets. Both machines’ historical data is preserved.
Yes. Go to the tag’s detail page and click Assign Person to change the assignment. The previous person’s historical data remains intact under their own record.
  • Green — Battery level is good
  • Yellow — Battery is getting low, plan for replacement
  • Red — Battery is critically low, replace immediately to avoid monitoring gaps
You can set up a Low Battery alert to receive SMS notifications when batteries reach critical levels.
When a device is no longer in use, archive it rather than deleting it to preserve historical data. Go to the device’s detail page and click Archive. Archived devices are hidden from default lists but can be viewed by enabling “Include Archived” in filters.
